Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will not compete at the upcoming Internazionali BNL d'Italia.

The No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings has withdrawn from the clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome due to a right forearm injury. It is the same injury that caused the Spaniard to miss the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell last month, although he then returned to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, where he reached the quarter-finals before falling to Andrey Rublev in three sets on Wednesday.

“I felt some pain after playing in Madrid, some discomfort in my arm,” Alcaraz wrote on X. “Today I did some tests and I have a muscle edema in my pronator teres, a consequence of my recent injury. Unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome. I need to rest so I can recover and play 100% pain free. I am very sorry, I will see you next year @InteBNLdItalia."

Alcaraz is 18-5 in the 2024 season. He lifted his 13th tour-level title in March at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and the 20-year-old is currently fifth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and home favourite Jannik Sinner are set to lead the field at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, which will take place at Rome’s Foro Italico from 8-19 May.
