Roland Garros Champs Enjoy Best Season

Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes were the fourth team to clinch their place at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, where they will make their second straight appearance (0-3 record) at the season climax.

2009 In Review

The Czech-Indian duo first teamed up in May 2008 and captured two Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros (d. Moodie-Norman) and the US Open (d. Bhupathi-Knowles) this year. They have reached the quarter-finals or better in six of their 15 tournaments.

After a disappointing first round exit at the Aircel Chennai Open, the pair advanced to the Australian Open semi-finals (l. to Bryan-Bryan) and Rotterdam final (l. to Nestor-Zimonjic) in the first two months of the season.

During the European clay-court swing, Dlouhy and Paes found their feet reaching the latter stages of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (semi-finals) and Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome (quarter-finals) before dropping two sets in six matches en route to the Roland Garros title in early June.

The pair bounced back from a Wimbledon first round exit (l. to Blake-Fish) with a semi-final exit at the International German Open in Hamburg (l. to Melo-Polasek) and a run to the Rogers Cup quarter-finals (l. to Mirnyi-Ram) in Montreal.

Finals History

Dlouhy and Paes compiled a 0-3 record at the 2008 season climax in Shanghai and failed to progress past the round-robin group stage.

The 29-year-old Dlouhy will be appearing for the third time (also 2007-2008). He made his debut in 2007 with compatriot Pavel Vizner (2-1 record).

Paes, 36, who first appeared with Mahesh Bhupathi at the 1997 season climax, will be making his 10th appearance (also 1998-2000, 2002, 2006-2008) with his fourth different partner. He has reached the final on four occasions in 1997, 1999-2000 (w/Bhupathi) and in 2005 (w/Zimonjic).
