Estoril Open

Estoril Hosts Both Tours In Spring Clay Tournament
The Estoril Open began as an ATP event in 1990, and became a combined men’s and women’s tournament in 1998 – making it one of only four European spring clay court stops (also Roland Garros, Rome, Madrid) to feature both tours playing side-by-side. Four ATP World Tour Champions have titled in Estoril: Thomas Muster, Carlos Moya, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Roger Federer.

Gasquet Denied - Richard Gasquet dropped to 6-9 in ATP World Tour finals (2-5 on clay). He finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic in the 2007 Estoril Open final. "He deserved this win. He played better than me," admitted Gasquet.

Wawrinka Consistent On Clay - Stanislas Wawrinka reached his third ATP World Tour clay-court semi-final of the season, falling to eventual champion del Potro. The Swiss also featured in the last four in Buenos Aires and Acapulco.

Ramos Keeps Up Form - Albert Ramos reached his third ATP World Tour semi-final (or better) of the season. The Spaniard, who had reached his first final in Casablanca a month earlier, was beaten by Richard Gasquet.

Del Potro Retains Crown
Juan Martin del Potro successfully defended his Estoril Open title with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over 2007 runner-up Richard Gasquet. Del Potro became the third player in the 23-year-old history of the ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tournament to win back-to-back titles. "I felt I played well really well today," said del Potro. "I felt it was my best match of the week, so I am very glad for that to get another title in Estoril."
