Tennis Returns Viña del Mar
The VTR Open returned to Viña del Mar in 2012, after a brief stint in Santiago. It is the first clay-court tournament of the ATP World Tour season and also the opening leg of the four-tournament swing through Latin America, aptly coined the "Golden Swing" in honour of top Chileans and Olympic Gold medalists Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu. Gonzalez is a four-time champion.

Double Disappointment - Carlos Berlocq celebrated his 29th birthday by reaching his first ATP World Tour final, but after being beaten by Monaco, he was also on the losing side in the doubles final alongside Pablo Andujar.

Gonzalez Makes Return - Four-time former champion Fernando Gonzalez returned to action in Vina del Mar after an injury-marred 2011 season. The Chilean was beaten in the second round by Joao Souza.

Giraldo Upset - One year after reaching his first final at the VTR Open, sixth seed Santiago Giraldo was bundled out in the first round by Argentine Leonardo Mayer. Mayer lost to Jeremy Chardy in the next round.

Top seed Juan Monaco ended a five-year title drought at the VTR Open as he defeated first-time finalist Carlos Berlocq 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-1 in an all-Argentine final in Vina del Mar.
