ATP stats and information guru Greg Sharko takes a special look at Roger Federer as the Swiss chases a sixth US OPEN title.
FEDERER GRAND SLAM SEMI-FINAL STREAK
Roger Federer is looking to capture his sixth consecutive US OPEN title, the most since Bill Tilden won six straight from 1920-25. Since losing in the third round at Roland Garros to Gustavo Kuerten in 2004, Federer has reached the semi-finals or better in a record 21 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments. Kuerten was ranked No. 30 at the time and since that loss Federer also has not lost to a player outside the Top 5 in Grand Slam action, compiling a 119-0 mark. Here is a breakdown by Grand Slam tournament against players ranked outside the Top 5 beginning with 2004 Wimbledon:
| Grand Slam | W-L |
| Australian Open | 29-0 |
| Roland Garros | 27-0 |
| Wimbledon | 35-0 |
| US OPEN | 28-0 |
Note: During the streak, he's either won the title (13 times) or lost to the eventual champion (8 times).
