Albert Montanes and Santiago Ventura captured their first team title at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca on Friday when they defeated James Cerretani and Todd Perry 6-1, 6-2.
Having upset second seeds Agustin Calleri and Pablo Cuevas in the semifinals, the Spaniards converted five of seven break points and won 72% of points on serve in to dispatch the American/Australian Cerretani/Perry in the final in just 53 minutes.
“We always enjoy playing in Casablanca,” said Ventura. “We reached the final in Costa do Sauipe earlier this year and now we are very happy that we've finally won our first title together."
Added Montanes: “We didn't expect an easy match at all. We are glad that it worked out so well. It's amazing to win a title together since we are close friends."
They were through to their second final of the season, having finished as runners-up in Costa do Sauipe in February. It is World No. 178 Montanes’ first ATP title; he has four times been a runner-up at ATP doubles events. No. 56 Ventura has now captured his third ATP doubles title, also winning in Vina del Mar and Acapulco with David Ferrer in 2005.
