Former World No. 12 Dominik Hrbaty proposed to his Czech girlfriend Nelly Petrova early on Saturday morning in Perth, hours after the Slovak Republic won the ITF Hyundai Hopman Cup, which is an international mixed tennis tournament and not part of the ATP World Tour.
The 31-year-old Slovak confirmed he had got down on one knee and proposed when the pair got back to their room after the final and was happy to report that Petrova had accepted.
Hrbaty will make a tournament record 10th appearance in Auckland, where he won the Heineken Open title twice, in 2001 (d. Clavet) and 2004 (d. Nadal). He also finished runner-up in 2003 (l. to Kuerten) at the ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament.
The couple made an appearance at the traditional 'Yacht Race with the Stars' in Auckland harbor on Sunday night.
Hrbaty, who received a wild card into this year’s event, will play his opening match on Tuesday against defending Heineken Open champion Philipp Kohlschreiber.
