It is the biggest and most prestigious new event on the ATP World Tour. The Shanghai Masters 1000 presented by Rolex makes its debut on October 12 with a brand new addition to the world famous Qi Zhong Stadium that was the centerpiece for the Tennis Masters Cup.
“Our slogan for the Shanghai Masters 1000 presented by Rolex will be ‘Simply the Best’ because we believe the product we will be presenting to the sporting world is just that. In men’s tennis we stand as number one in Asia and the region at large,” Tournament Director Michael Luevano said.
“Tennis is a major sport in China and Shanghai has been the centre of the sport from the very beginning. The city hosted the ATP International Series tournament and we had the hugely successful Tennis Masters Cup. Now we are continuing the tradition of bringing the best to China with this new Masters 1000 event.
“Tennis fans in Shanghai and throughout China will be treated to the best facility with the best tennis from the best players in the game.”
Qi Zhong Stadium was hailed as a masterpiece with its innovative retractable roof when it went on show for the first time in 2005. Now the extensions to the entire complex with a second major show court due for completion by July is simply stunning.
This new court and the landscaping around it will only add to the fact that Shanghai has the most modern and Simply the Best tennis complex in the entire Asian region, if not the world.

“Over the last few years during the Tennis Masters Cup we have been witness to tennis fans that have been simply the best and the players have really appreciated the reception they have received in Shanghai,” added Michael Luevano. “Now these great fans will have the opportunity to cheer for more players and more of the best names on the ATP World Tour.”
The tournament’s official launch will be on May 5th.
