Dmitry Tursunov and Nadia Petrova took time out Tuesday morning at the AEGON International to do some sightseeing in Eastbourne. The Russians took a short drive along the coastline and paid a visit to one of the key landmarks in the area - the Eastbourne Pier.
The pair posed for photographs and took part in interviews for local media. The activity highlighted the first year that the tournament in Eastbourne has welcomed both men and women in a combined ATP World Tour 250 and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event.
"There are a few combined events now and they cater to the crowds really well," said Tursunov, the No. 2 seed this week in the men's draw. "Fans have the choice of what to watch and you can bring the family so it’s a little more attractive to people. It's great to be playing this event and obviously a beautiful location right on the seaside."
Petrova said: “It’s very exciting and I’m sure the crowd enjoy it as much as the players. The tournament seems to have attracted bigger crowds than in previous years and it’s also good for us to play alongside each other and to get to know each other a little better. The pier is really beautiful, the view is gorgeous and there’s lots of entertainment.”
