Two-time champion Tommy Robredo of Spain (2006-07) returns to Centre Court action in a second round match against Australian qualifier Peter Luczak, who advanced to the second round after beating Spaniard Alberto Martin in straight sets. The No. 3 seed Robredo leads all competitors in the Catella Swedish Open with a 21-6 career mark in eight previous appearances. In other first round Centre Court action, No. 5 seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain takes on former World No. 1 Marat Safin, who has never gone past the second round in two previous appearances. Spanish qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver starts the day’s action on Centre Court in opening round play against Portugal’s Frederico Gil. In the evening session, No. 2 seed and Roland Garros finalist Robin Soderling of Sweden plays Belgium’s Kristof Vliegen in a second round match. On Court One, German Bjorn Phau, who proved too strong for 16-year-old Swedish wildcard Daniel Berta, takes on Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili, who rallied from behind to upset No. 7 seed Belgian Christophe Rochus in three sets.
