The ATP World Tour circuit continues this week with the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 hard-court tennis tournament in Montreal, the Rogers Cup, which is the fourth stop of the Olympus US Open Series. The Rogers Cup, first held in 1881, is the oldest ongoing tennis tournament after Wimbledon and the US Open and alternates annually between Montreal and Toronto.

The 2009 edition of the Rogers Cup will be staged at Montreal’s Uniprix Stadium, and is set to feature the highly anticipated return of the world’s top two players – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, both two-time Canadian champions. Federer will be playing in his first tournament since his return to the World No. 1 ranking, and will also be stepping on the court for the first time as a father. Meanwhile, defending champion Nadal intends to make his first appearance since a fourth-round exit at Roland Garros after missing the past two months to recuperate from tendonitis in his knees. Other past champions returning this week include Novak Djokovic, who claimed the title when the tournament was staged in Montreal in 2007, Andy Roddick and Marat Safin. In the doubles field, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic will look to repeat last year’s effort, when they defeated top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the championship match.
