Second seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan edged past Russian duo Nikolay Davydenko and Igor Kunitsyn 7-6(3), 7-5 in 82 minutes Thursday for a place in the China Open semi-finals.
Solid on serve, the Californian twins won 80 per cent of points and hit four aces. They improved to 58-14 on the year, highlighted by five ATP World Tour titles.
In the top half of the draw, Lukas Dlouhy and Philipp Kohlschriber defeated Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 6-3, 6-4 in 73 minutes for a semi-final meeting with Mark Knowles and Andy Roddick.
At the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo, Christopher Kas and Jaroslav Levinsky beat Marco Chiudinelli and Dominik Meffert 6-3, 6-2 in just 49 minutes for a second round clash against top seed Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak.
Both pairs hit six aces, but Kas and Levinsky won 78 per cent of service points and saved all four break points they faced. Chiudinelli and Meffert replaced Brazilian duo Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa, who pulled out Wednesday due to illness.
Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer booked a spot in the semi-finals after edging past Johan Brunstrom and Jean-Julien Rojer 3-6, 6-4, 11-9, clinching the win on their third match points. The pair squandered two match points at 9-7 in the Match tie-break.
