|31.10.2009
Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer advanced to the Bank Austria TennisTrophy for the second time after defeating Germans Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 Saturday at the ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in Vienna.
The fourth seeds, who finished runners-up at their home tournament in 2006 (l. to Pala-Vizner), lost their serve three times but also converted two of four break points to seal victory after 62 minutes. In the final they will face third seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach.
The Austrians, currently 11th in the year-to-date 2009 ATP Doubles Team Rankings and in contention to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, are through to their third ATP World Tour final of the year. They have captured titles at Pilot Pen Tennis (d. Soares-Ullyett) and the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships (d. Hutchins-Kerr).
At the St. Petersburg Open, British pair Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski reached their second ATP World Tour final together with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 victory over 2008 Australian Open champions Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram.
Fleming and Skupski won their first title last month, defeating French duo Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra in the Open de Moselle final. They will face another French pair in Jeremy Chardy and Richard Gasquet as they bid for their second title.
French wild cards Arnaud Clement and Sebastien Grosjean reached their first ATP World Tour final together since 2004 after beating Italian-Croatian pairing Simone Bolelli and Ivan Ljubicic 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon. Their last appearance in an ATP World Tour final came at the BNP Paribas Open in 2004 (d. Black-Ullyett).
