Stockholm Sunday Preview - Baghdatis, O. Rochus Battle For Third Career Title

The championship of the If Stockholm Open is an all-unseeded match-up between Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus and Olivier Rochus of Belgium. Both players are appearing in their first ATP World Tour final of the season and the winner will earn his third career ATP World Tour title. Both players are 2-4 in their career in ATP World Tour finals. In their only previous meeting, Baghdatis prevailed 7-5, 6-4 in the first round of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome in 2006. Baghdatis, who had a walkover into the final when top seed Robin Soderling withdrew due an elbow injury, has not dropped a set en route to the final. Rochus has won his past three matches in three sets this week. The winner will also become the 10th unseeded winner on the ATP World Tour this year, the first since Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci won in Gstaad on Aug. 2.

DOUBLES FINAL – FAMILIAR FACES BACK IN DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP
The top two seeds in the If Stockholm Open, Bruno Soares of Brazil and Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe, take on No. 2 Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Paul Hanley of Australia.

Soares and Ullyett are appearing in their fourth ATP World Tour final together (1-2), the second this season. In August, they were finalists in New Haven. All four of Soares’ career finals have come with Ullyett. The 37-year-old Ullyett is 33-25 lifetime in finals. He is trying to extend his title streak to 13 consecutive years since winning his first ATP World Tour title in Shanghai in 1997. Ullyett is 4-0 in Stockholm finals, winning with four different partners – in 1999 (w/Norval), 2002 (w/W. Black), 2006 (w/Hanley) and last year (w/Bjorkman).

Aspelin and Hanley, who teamed up for the first time in April, are appearing in their third ATP World Tour final of the season. They were finalists in their debut tournament in Casablanca and in July they captured the title in Hamburg. Aspelin, who is making his first Stockholm final showing, is 11-18 lifetime in finals. Hanley is 2-3 in Stockholm finals, winning titles in 2005 (w/Arthurs) and 2006 (w/Hanley). He also was runner-up from 2002-04 (w/Arthurs). He is 22-18 in his career in finals.
