Second seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan edged closer to a fourth final at the Swiss Indoors Basel after edging Johan Brunstrom and Jean-Julien Rojer 7-6(3), 7-6(5) Friday in the quarter-finals of the ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament.
The victory takes Mike Bryan to within one victory of his 600th tour-level match win; he currently stands on a 599-208 mark. The twins are bidding to capture the Basel title for the fourth time, after triumphing in 2002 (d. Knowles-Nestor), ’04 (d. Arnold Ker-Hood) and ’07 (d. Blake-Knowles).
The 31-year-old Americans, who will feature at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals later this month, have won six tour-level titles from 10 finals this season, including victory at the Australian Open (d. Bhupathi-Knowles).
They next will face Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa.
At the Valencia Open 500, also an ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament, Americans Eric Butorac and Rajeev Ram advanced to the semi-finals with a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6(4), 10-7 victory over Spaniards Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Albert Montanes.
Butorac and Ram have won two ATP World Tour titles together this season, triumphing at the Aircel Chennai Open (d. Scherrer-Wawrinka) and the PTT Thailand Open (d. Garcia-Lopez-Zverev) in Bangkok.
