Fyrstenberg-Matkowski Down Bryans, Clinch London Finals Berth

Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski clinched the final doubles berth at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as they defeated second seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 6-4, 7-6(7) Friday in the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Masters, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Paris (Bercy).

The seventh seeds saved all eight break points they faced and clinched the only service break of the match as they prevailed against the two-time tournament winners in 85 minutes. Fyrstenberg and Matkowski will make their third appearance at the season finale; they reached the semi-finals in Shanghai (l. to Bryans) last year.

Fyrstenberg and Matkowski are bidding for their third ATP World Tour title of the season this week, following triumphs at the AEGON International (d. Parrott-Polasek) in Eastbourne and the Proton Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2009 (d. Kunitsyn-Levinsky). They are closing on their second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final in as many months, after finishing runners-up at the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 presented by Rolex (l. to Benneteau-Tsonga) last month.

In the semi-finals, the Poles will face Spaniards Tommy Robredo and Marcel Granollers, who edged Swedish Simon Aspelin and Paul Hanley of Australia 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-7 in 85 minutes.

Robredo and Granollers are looking to reach their third ATP World Tour final together. In their first outing of the season together in February, they captured their first title at the Brasil Open (d. Arnold Ker-Monaco) in Costa do Sauipe and last week finished runners-up at the Valencia Open 500 (l. to Cermak-Mertinak).

Reigning ATP World Tour Champions Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic cruised into the semi-finals with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win over German tandem Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber. The Canadian-Serbian duo struck 10 aces and broke serve twice to seal victory in 68 minutes.

Nestor and Zimonjic, who reached the final in Paris (Bercy) in 2007 (l. to Bryans), are looking to capture back-to-back ATP World Tour titles after triumphing at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel (d. Bryans) last week. They have won four ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies this season, most recently succeeding at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters (d. Bryans) in Cincinnati.
