BNP Paribas Masters semi-finals on Saturday are headlined by World No. 3 Novak Djokovic and No. 2 Rafael Nadal battling it out for the 20th time (Nadal leads 14-5) and Frenchman Gael Monfils, the No. 15 seed, taking on Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek, the No. 13 seed. Monfils has won two of the past three meetings. All four players are trying to win their first BNP Paribas Masters title. Nadal was runner-up two years ago and Stepanek was a finalist in 2004. Djokovic is attempting to reach his ATP World Tour-best 10th final (4-5) of the season and Nadal his ninth final (5-3). Stepanek is 1-2 and Monfils is 1-1 in ATP World Tour finals this season.
Nadal is also trying to reach his sixth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final (3-2) of the year and Djokovic his fifth title match (0-4). Stepanek and Monfils are both attempting to reach their first ATP Masters 1000 final in 2009.
RAFA EYES 400TH WIN – Nadal is attempting to become the ninth active player to win 400 singles matches in his career. If he wins Saturday, he will have recorded his 400th victory in 487 matches, the fastest of any active player on the ATP World Tour.
