Former World No. 3 David Nalbandian will make his first competitive appearance in his return from hip surgery on Saturday at the San Juan Minero exhibition tournament in San Juan, Argentina.
The 27-year-old Nalbandian declared he is now fully recovered from the hip injury that has seen him sidelined from the ATP World Tour since 8 May, when he announced he would undergo surgery to resolve the problem. His last match was a first-round loss to Paul Capdeville at the Estoril Open.
“I'm really looking forward to returning to playing tennis,” said the Cordoba native. “My tennis and physical fitness are both at a high level. The past six months of recovery have been very tough, but it has also given me the chance to rest and spend time with my family and friends in Unquillo.”
“I have a great desire to return to the circuit", added Nalbandian, who will open the 2010 ATP World Tour season at the Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand beginning 11 January.
The Argentine has also confirmed he will feature at the Copa Telmex in Buenos Aires, beginning 14 February. The 2008 winner will be joined by countryman and 2007 champion Juan Monaco and Spaniard David Ferrer, who will make his fourth event appearance.
