Memphis, U.S.A.

Andy Roddick, Bob McAdoo© Ron AngleBob McAdoo had the chance to meet top American Andy Roddick during his visit to Memphis.

Basketball Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo was in attendance at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships on Thursday evening. McAdoo is assistant coach at the Miami Heat, who are in Memphis to play the Memphis Grizzlies, and the keen tennis fan was able to take time out of his busy schedule to watch Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova in the night session.

When getting out of the car, McAdoo, a native of Greensboro, N.C., met No. 2 American and fellow Greensboro native John Isner before later having the chance to meet top American, Andy Roddick, and the tallest player on the ATP World Tour, 6’10’’ Ivo Karlovic.

“It was fantastic just meeting the two big guys, [John] Isner and Ivo [Karlovic],” said McAdoo, whose 14-year-old daughter, Rasheeda, is a promising junior player. “I’ve seen these guys on TV and you don’t know how big they are until you get right up on them! It’s just amazing that these guys have the type of game for tennis because they always say tennis is for smaller guys, but these guys are great players.

“Of course, meeting Andy [Roddick] was just fantastic because I try to watch all of his matches. I had the chance to talk to him briefly. I see him at some of our Heat games, sitting on the front row, when he has the chance.

“It’s nice seeing tennis; I’m a big tennis fan. Every time I have a break I try to see all the tennis matches I can.”
