Here's an updated look at the Top 20 players in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings as of 8 March. The top eight players in the rankings as of 15 November qualify for the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London to be held 21-28 November. The ATP World Tour Champion will be named as the No. 1 player at the end of the season.

1. Roger Federer, Switzerland – Year in Review: For the second year in a row, the Swiss superstar enters March coming off an extended break after the Australian Open
He withdrew from Dubai due to a lung infection….He opened the first month with a semi-final in Doha (l. to Davydenko) and followed with his 16th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, defeating Andy Murray in straight sets…He extended his streak of winning at least one Grand Slam crown to eight straight years…Has a 10-1 match record.

2. Novak Djokovic, Serbia – Last Week’s Result: In first-round Davis Cup tie vs. the United States, posted wins over Sam Querrey in four sets and John Isner in five sets to lead his country into the Davis Cup quarter-finals for the first time.
Year in Review: The 22-year-old Serb has a 13-2 match record and he earned his first ATP World Tour title of the year in Dubai on 28 February by repeating title with three-set win over Russian Mikhail Youzhny....In the first month of action he advanced to the quarter-finals at the Australian Open (l. to Tsonga) and afterwards moved to a career-high ranking of No. 2 on Feb. 1…Also a semi-finalist in Rotterdam last month (l. to Youzhny).

3.  Rafael Nadal, Spain – Year in Review: The World No. 3 is 8-2 this season, opening with a runner-up showing in Doha (l. to Davydenko) and following with a quarter-final effort at the Australian Open, where he retired in the third set vs. Andy Murray due to a knee injury…Afterwards, slipped to No. 3 on 1 February.
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).

4. Andy Murray, Great Britain – Year in Review: The 22-year-old Scot opened the season by reaching his second career Grand Slam final at the Australian Open where he dropped only one set en route to the title match, highlighted by wins over Rafael Nadal (QF) and Marin Cilic (SF) before losing to Roger Federer…In his next tournament in Dubai, he lost in the second round (l. to Tipsarevic)…Has a 7-2 record on the season.

5. Juan Martin del Potro, Argentina – Year in Review: The 21-year-old Argentine has only played one tournament this season, at the Australian Open, where he lost in the fourth round to Marin Cilic in five sets…He has been hampered by a right wrist injury, which will keep him out of action until Miami later this month.
Next Tournament: Sony Ericsson Open, Miami (24 March – 4 April).

6. Nikolay Davydenko, Russia – Year in Review: The top Russian has jumped off to a 13-3 start, winning his 20th ATP World Tour title in Doha with back-to-back wins over World No. 1 Roger Federer (SF) and No. 2 Rafael Nadal (F), then following with a quarter-final showing at the Australian Open (l. to Federer in four sets)…Last month reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam (l. to Soderling) and in his last tournament in Dubai he retired in the second round with a wrist injury (vs. Berrer).
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).

7. Robin Soderling, Sweden – Last Week’s Result: The 25-year-old Swede won both of his matches in first-round home Davis Cup tie to Argentina but Swedes lost 3-2.
Year in Review: The top Swede has an 8-3 match record on the season, winning his fifth career ATP World Tour title in Rotterdam last month (d. Youzhny) and reaching the quarter-finals in Marseille (l. to eventual champ Llodra)…His No. 7 ranking is a career-high.
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).

8. Andy Roddick, United States –  Year in Review: The Austin, Texas resident has a 15-3 match record on the season, opening with his 28th tour-level title in Brisbane (d. Stepanek) and reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open (l. to Cilic in five sets)…Last month reached the final in San Jose (l. to Verdasco) and followed with quarter-final in Memphis (l. to Querrey), both in three sets…Has won at least one ATP World Tour title for 10 consecutive years (along w/Federer)…Leads the circuit with 13-2 tie-break mark.

9. Marin Cilic, Croatia – Last Week’s Result: In first-round Davis Cup play, helped his country to a 5-0 victory over visiting Ecuador by winning a singles and doubles (w/Karlovic) match to clinch the tie…Next up is Serbia in the QFs in July.
Year in Review: The top Croat has won 18 of 20 matches to begin the year with repeat ATP World Tour titles in Chennai (d. Wawrinka) and Zagreb (d. Berrer)...He and Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero are the lone two-time winners on the ATP World Tour this season…Also advanced to his first Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open (l. to Murray) and afterwards broke Top 10 on 1 February…In last event reached quarter-finals in Dubai  (l. to Melzer)

10. Fernando Gonzalez, Chile – Last Week’s Result: The top Chilean won the second singles match in four sets in first-round Davis Cup home tie vs. Israel…Chile led 2-1 going into Monday’s final day of play.
Year in Review: The 29 year old, the oldest player in the Top 10, has a 10-3 match record on the season…He opened with a fourth-round showing at the Australian Open (l. to Roddick in five sets) and then in February turned in back-to-back semi-final results on clay in Santiago (l. to Bellucci) and Acapulco (l. to Ferrer), losing both in three sets to the eventual champion…He decided not to play in Indian Wells in order to assist earthquake efforts.
Next Tournament: Sony Ericsson Open, Miami (24 March – 4 April).

11. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, France – Last Week’s Result: In first-round Davis Cup play against Germany, he posted a four-set win over Benjamin Becker in the second rubber before retiring with an ankle injury in the third set of dead rubber against Simon Greul. Year in Review The top Frenchman on the ATP World Tour has a 9-4 match record on the season, reaching the semi-finals at the Australian Open (l. to Federer) and Marseille (l. to Benneteau)…In his last tournament lost in the second round in Dubai (l. to Ljubicic).

12. Fernando Verdasco, Spain – Year in Review: The No. 2 Spaniard (behind Nadal) has a 10-3 match record on the season, highlighted by capturing his fourth career ATP World Tour title in San Jose (d. Roddick), first indoors, in February…He opened the year by reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open (l. to Davydenko in five sets)…In his last tournament in Acapulco, advanced to the quarter-finals (l. to Monaco).

13. Mikhail Youzhny, Russia – Last Week’s Result: The No. 2 Russian (behind Davydenko) led his country to a 4-1 first-round Davis Cup victory over India by winning both of his matches in straight sets.
Year in Review: The 27-year-old Moscow native is off to a 12-3 start this season, reaching back-to-back ATP World Tour finals in Rotterdam (ret. vs. Soderling due to a thigh injury) and in Dubai (l. to No. 2 Djokovic in three sets)…Also reached third round at Australian Open (withdrew due to wrist injury).

14. Juan Carlos Ferrero, Spain – Year in Review: The 30-year-old Spaniard won 14 of 15 matches during the Latin American clay-court circuit, winning back-to-back ATP World Tour titles in Costa do Sauipe (d. Kubot) and Buenos Aires (d. Ferrer) while finishing runner-up in Acapulco (l. to Ferrer)…Overall he is 14-3 on the season; last year he didn’t win his 14th match until June at the Queen’s Club in London.
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).

15. Gael Monfils, France – Last Week’s Result: The No. 2 Frenchman helped his country to a 4-1 first round Davis Cup victory over Germany by opening the tie with a straight-sets win over Philipp Kohlschreiber…France will host two-time defending champion Spain in the quarter-finals in July.
Year in Review: The 23-year-old Frenchman has advanced to the quarter-finals or better in four of five tournaments this season en route to a 12-5 match record…He reached the semi-finals in Brisbane (l. to Stepanek) and Johannesburg (l. to Lopez) and the quarter-finals in Rotterdam (l. to Youzhny) and Marseille (l. to Benneteau)…Also third round. at Australian Open (l. to Isner).

16. David Ferrer, Spain – Last Week’s Result: The Valencia resident won both of his matches in leading Spain to a 4-1 first round Davis Cup home victory over Switzerland…
He posted wins over Marco Chiudinelli and Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets…Spain will travel to France in July for the QF tie.
Year in Review: The No. 4 Spaniard (behind No. 3 Nadal, No. 12 Verdasco, No. 14 Ferrero) is off to a 15-4 start, highlighted by his eighth ATP World Tour title in Acapulco (d. Ferrero)…The previous week he reached the final in Buenos Aires (l. to Ferrero)…Last month he advanced to the semi-finals in Johannesburg (l. to Robert).

17. Radek Stepanek, Czech Republic – Last Week’s Result: The top Czech Republic performer helped his country to a 4-1 first-round Davis Cup victory over Belgium by defeating Xavier Malisse in straight sets in the second rubber.
Year in Review: The 31-year-old Czech native opened the season by reaching the final in Brisbane (l. to Roddick) and followed with a five-set first round loss to Ivo Karlovic at the Australian Open…Has not won back-to-back matches in a tournament since Brisbane…Has a 6-4 match record on the season.
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).

18. Tommy Haas, Germany – Year in Review: The top German underwent right hip surgery on 26 February in Vail, Colo. and he’s expected to be sidelined for at least six months…Prior to his injury, compiled a 3-4 match record with third-round showing at the Australian Open (l. to Tsonga).
Next Tournament: To be determined later in the year.

19. Stanislas Wawrinka, Switzerland – Last Week’s Result: The 24-year-old Swiss accounted for his country’s lone point in a 4-1 first-round Davis Cup loss to Spain, defeating Nicolas Almagro in five sets in the opening rubber…Then lost reverse rubber to David Ferrer, which clinched tie for Spain.
Year in Review: The Swiss No. 2 opened the season with a runner-up effort in Chennai (l. to Cilic) and followed with a third-round showing at the Australian Open (l. to Cilic again)...Has a 7-3 match record on the season.
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).
     
20. John Isner, United States –  Last Week’s Result: The No. 2 American (behind Roddick) made his Davis Cup debut in Serbia and lost both of his singles matches to Viktor Troicki in four sets and No. 2 Novak Djokovic in five sets…He subbed in for Mike Bryan, who was ill, in doubles and teamed for four-set win (w/B. Bryan).
Year in Review: The tallest player (6’9”) in the Top 20 has jumped off to a 12-5 start, highlighted by his first ATP World Tour title in Auckland in January (d. Clement)…He then followed with a fourth round at the Australian Open (l. to Murray)…Last month he advanced to the final in Memphis, losing to friend and Davis Cup teammate Sam Querrey.
Next Tournament: BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (11-21 March).
