Monday Preview: Former Champ Ferrero; Wild Cards Starace, Volandri In Action

No. 12 seed and 2001 champion Juan Carlos Ferrero takes on Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo in the opening match on Centre Court on Monday. The 30-year-old Ferrero is one of four players to win two ATP World Tour titles this season and one year ago at this time he was ranked No. 100.

In the second match, Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus takes a 4-0 career mark against Latvian Ernests Gulbis. Both players have won an ATP World Tour title this season.

In the third match, wild card Potito Starace takes on Czech Republic qualifier Jan Hajek (tied 1-1). Last week in Barcelona Hajek won 61 64 in the first round.

In the evening match,  another wild card, Filippo Volandri, makes his 10th straight tournament appearance as he takes on Aussie qualifier Peter Luczak. Volandri was a semi-finalist here three years ago, upsetting World No. 1 Roger Federer en route.

On Pietrangeli, there are four seeds in action – No. 10 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, No. 11 Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia, No. 14 John Isner of the U.S. and No. 16 Juan Monaco of Argentina.
