World No. 3 and four-time Rome champion Rafael Nadal makes his second clay court tournament appearance of the season Wednesday when he takes on top German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second match on Centre Court. Nadal, who is the reigning champ, owns a 22-1 career mark at the Foro Italico and he’s 5-0 lifetime against Kohlschreiber. In the first match of the day, Italian wild card Paolo Lorenzi meets No. 5 seed Robin Soderling of Sweden for the first time. Lorenzi is one of four Italians left in the second round. Following Nadal-Kohlschreiber, in the final day session No. 6 seed Fernando Verdasco of Spain brings a 2-0 mark against Italian wild card Simone Bolelli. In the night session, No. 13 seed David Ferrer of Spain takes a 4-0 career record against Italian wild card Potito Starace. On outer courts there are five seeds in action.
MR. APRIL ON CLAY – Nadal has won 54 consecutive matches on clay in the month of April and he’s won 10 titles during that stretch, six in Monte-Carlo and four in Barcelona. His last loss on clay in April came on Apr. 8, 2005 to Igor Andreev in the quarter-finals of Valencia.
