World No. 10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga enjoyed a comfortable route through to the third round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Wednesday in Rome, defeating Serbian Viktor Troicki 6-2, 6-3.

The seventh seed countered losing his own serve twice by converting six of 10 break point opportunities and recorded 75 per cent of first serves in as he sealed victory in 80 minutes.

It marked Tsonga’s first victory in three visits to the Foro Italico; he had fallen in the first round in 2008 (l. to Simon) and 2009 (l. to Gasquet). The Frenchman is coming off a quarter-final showing at the Barcelona Open BancSabadell and improved to an 18-8 match record on the season.

Tsonga next will meet Columbian qualifier Santiago Giraldo, who built on his stunning first-round victory over Juan Carlos Ferrero by dismissing French qualifier Michael Llodra 6-3, 6-2.

Spaniard David Ferrer booked a tough third-round meeting with Scotland's Andy Murray after a 7-5, 6-2 win over Italian wild card Potito Starace. For the second consecutive match Ferrer served at 80 per cent or better, putting 84 per cent of first serves into play and saving five of six break points faced.

Ferrer leads the ATP World Tour with a 20-3 match record on clay this year, which includes consecutive semi-final runs in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona. Today's win also moves Ferrer (26-8) into a tie with Andy Roddick (26-4) for most match wins in 2010.
