There are seven second round matches Wednesday at the Open De Nice Cote D’Azur, highlighted by the top four seeds of Robin Soderling of Sweden, Fernando Verdasco of Spain, Gael Monfils of France and Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil.

In the opening match on Centre Court, No. 5 seed Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus meets German Simon Greul for the first time. Baghdatis is trying to reach his fourth ATP World Tour quarter-final or better this season and his 23 match wins already equals last year’s total. Greul is looking to reach his first ATP World Tour quarter-final of the year.

In the second match, Soderling takes a 4-1 lifetime mark against Belgian Olivier Rochus. Soderling, who reached last year’s Roland Garros final, enters with a 21-8 match record on the season. Rochus is attempting to reach his first quarter-final in 2010. 

In the third match, Verdasco brings a 3-1 career mark against Frenchman Florent Serra. The Spaniard won both meetings last year in the first round at Roland Garros and second round at the US Open, both in straight sets. Verdasco is a two-time winner on the ATP World Tour this year and he also advanced to his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final at nearby Monte-Carlo last month (l. to Nadal). Verdasco enters with a 27-8 match record, including 15-4 on clay.

In the final match, Monfils looks for his second win against Swiss No. 3 Marco Chiudinelli. Monfils won last October in the second round of Tokyo. Monfils, who is the French No. 2, has a 15-7 match record on the season and he’s coming off a quarter-final effort in his first clay court tournament at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid (l. to Nadal).

On Court 1, Bellucci takes a 2-0 career mark against Argentine Leonardo Mayer and No. 8 seed Lukasz Kubot of Poland looks for his first win (0-2) against Italian Potito Starace. In one other match, Frenchman Richard Gasquet meets Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine for the first time.
