Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares have carried their title-winning form at the Open de Nice Cote d'Azur into Roland Garros by knocking out top seeds and 2003 champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 6-3, 7-6(6) in 77 minutes on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Bryan twins will now have to wait until the grass-court swing in their bid for a record-breaking 62nd tour-level doubles title. They are currently tied with Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde for most team trophies in the Open Era (since 1968).

Last year’s finalists and second seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic, the Bryans rival's at the top of the 2010 ATP Doubles Team Rankings, required 69 minutes to beat Simon Greul and Peter Luczak 6-1, 6-4. The Canadian-Serbian duo won clay-court titles at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and Barcelona Open BancSabadell this year.

The team they beat in last year's final, No. 4 seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman, overcame Spaniards Marc Lopez and Pere Riba 6-4, 7-6(4).

Fifth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi – both two-time former titlists with different partners – were beaten by Spaniards Marc Lopez and Pere Riba 6-4, 7-6(4) in 83 minutes.

Elsewhere, Nice finalists Rohan Bopanna of India and Pakistani Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi cruised past Fabio Fognini and Michael Russell 6-2, 6-3 in 59 minutes. The first-round match on Court 7 was watched by India and Pakistan's Ambassadors to France.
