Nestor-Zimonjic, Defending Champions Dlouhy-Paes Reach Quarter-finals

Second seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic battled through a testing third-round encounter against French duo Guillaume Rufin and Alexandre Sidorenko for a 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3 victory at Roland Garros on Sunday.

Last year’s finalists hit eight aces and converted three of six break point opportunities for victory in one hour and 50 minutes. They improved to a 12-2 record at the Grand Slam championship, where they are bidding to clinch their third clay-court title of the year. In the past couple of months, the Canadian-Serbian pair lifted trophies at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and Barcelona Open BancSabadell.

Tenth seeds Julian Knowle and Andy Ram converted two of five break point opportunities to beat Spaniards Nicolas Almagro and Santiago Giraldo 7-6(4), 6-2 in 67 minutes to set up a quarter-final meeting with Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares. The Open de Nice Cote d'Azur titlists and conquerors of the top-seeded Bryan twins on Saturday needed one hour and 41 minutes to beat Italians Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace 7-6(2), 7-6(7).

Defending champions Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes, the No. 3 seeds, cruised into the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-4 win, while Spaniards Marc Lopez and Pere Riba saved all six break points they faced to overcome ninth seeds Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak 7-5, 6-4.

Fourth seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman, the 2009 finalists, edged past British duo Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(4) in two hours and 34 minutes on Court 7. Fleming and Skupski converted one of nine break point opportunities.

Two teams who took part in the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London last year, sixth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach and No. 8 seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, also progressed to the third round.
