Cypriot No. 25 seed Marcos Baghdatis and Teimuraz Gabashvili have reached the Roland Garros third round, despite heavy rain wreaking havoc with the schedule on Thursday.

Baghdatis, who held a two-sets-to-one advantage over Marcel Granollers of Spain on Wednesday night, required just 32 minutes to wrap-up a 6-2 fourth-set for victory.

Gabashvili advanced to the third round for the first time when he beat Grega Zemlja of Slovenia 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in 87 minutes.

Only one doubles match has been completed today. French duo Thierry Ascione and Laurent Recouderc hit six aces to defeat Jamie Delgado and Evgeny Korolev 6-3, 7-5 in 79 minutes.

Play finally got underway on Thursday after a near-five hour delay at 3:30 p.m. local time. Matches were suspended at 5:13 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. local time, as rain showers returned to south-west Paris.

Fourth seed Andy Murray and Juan Ignacio Chela, who began their second round match at 8:09 p.m. local time on Wednesday night, are locked 1-1 in the third set. Murray returned to Court 1 on Thursday afternoon leading 30-year-old Chela 6-2, 3-3, before the Argentine hit back to take the second set 7-6(5).

Sixth seed Andy Roddick leads Slovenia’s Blaz Kavcic 6-3, 5-7, 4-3, having hit eight aces and 48 winners after two hours and 10 minutes of play on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Another American, No. 17 seed John Isner, leads Marco Chiudinelli 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 4-3 on Court 6. Both players have broken serve once. Meanwhile No. 14 seed Ivan Ljubicic leads American Mardy Fish 5-2 on Court 7.

Several singles and doubles matches have been rescheduled to Friday, including four-time former champion Rafael Nadal’s second round clash against Horacio Zeballos of Argentina.
