Nenad Zimonjic teamed up with Katarina Srebotnik to claim the Roland Garros mixed doubles title, prevailing against Julian Knowle and Yaroslava Shvedova 4-6, 7-6(5), 11-9 on Thursday in Paris.

Zimonjic and Srebotnik, who also came from behind in their semi-final match, were put to the test in the final. Knowle and Shvedova established a 3-0 lead in the Match Tie-break with two mini-breaks and eventually reached match point, only to see Zimonjic deliver a second serve ace to prevent them from celebrating victory. The Serbian-Slovenian duo reeled off the final three points to reclaim the Roland Garros title they first won in 2006.

“If Katarina doesn't play well I have no chance to win, and the other way around. If I don't play well, she can't win on her own – it's definitely a team,” said Zimonjic. “Maybe one day or a couple of points you play better than your partner, but at the end it's important how you play together. The key this tournament really was all the struggles that we had and the ups and downs. They were really close matches, but we believed until the end that we can come through.”

Zimonjic, who will play for the men’s doubles title on Saturday alongside Daniel Nestor, has now won four mixed doubles titles. He also won a pair of titles at the Australian Open in 2004 (w/Bovina) and in ’08 (w/Sun).
