Bryan Brothers Turn App Developers

Could the Bryan brothers be any cooler? They are the No. 1 doubles team in the world, subjects of 60 Minutes and The New Yorker features and accomplished musicians who have played on stage with the Counting Crows. And now the 32-year-old California twins have become app designers, serving up the free “Tennis App," which enjoyed its version two launch this week.

“I love the iPad and my iPhone… I’m always downloading apps,’” says tech-savvy Bob Bryan. “We had an idea to develop a tennis app as a teaching tool and we’ve had a lot of fun doing it. As we were starting out we discovered that there were two developers in Vegas who had just brought a product to market. So we teamed up and Mike and I have focused on content development and marketing.

“We’re really into it. We have weekly conference calls to keep looking for ways to make it better, we’re wearing a Tennis App patch on our match shirts and we’re doing all we can to promote it.”

The Tennis App features rankings, scores, tweets, news and super-slow motion shot instruction of the Bryans, including a feature that allows users to ‘flip’ the footage to suit their own playing hand. So a left-hander can still learn frame-by-frame how to hit a world-class backhand return from the right-handed Mike, and a right-hander can follow the signature serve of left-handed Bob. The Tennis App’s animation control – including smart zoom – allows users to slow down and zoom in on each stroke.

The Bryans hope to entice other players to sign up for the stroke analysis series as they look to build a library of content.
