Moodie-Norman End Bryans' Campaign

Wimbledon, England

Seventh seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman advanced to their second straight Grand Slam semi-final after ousting 2006 Wimbledon champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 7-6(4), 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 7-5 Wednesday at the All England Club.

The South African-Belgian duo, who lost out to Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the Roland Garros semi-finals four weeks ago, also reached the last four at Wimbledon last year, losing out to the Bryan twins on that occasion.

Moodie and Norman are bidding to reach their second major final together, after finishing runners-up at Roland Garros (l. to Dlouhy-Paes) last year. Moodie is a former Wimbledon champion, lifting the trophy with Stephen Huss in 2005 (d. Bryans).

Defeat for the Bryans postponed their quest to break the Open Era record by winning their 62nd tour-level title together. The Americans tied with Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde when they triumphed in Madrid, but went on to lose in the second round at Roland Garros before contesting The Championships.

Moodie and Norman next will face Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner, after the Austrian-German duo defeated Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-2. Both teams were playing in their first Grand Slam quarter-finals.

After the match, Bopanna and his coach shaved their heads following a pre-arranged agreement that they would do so should the ‘Indo-Pak Express’ reach their first major quarter-final.
