Brown, Bastl© Christian PfanderWild cards Dustin Brown and George Bastl ousted the second seeds in Gstaad.

Johan Brunstrom and Jarkko Nieminen booked their places in the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad final on Friday.

The pair won two fewer points than top seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman for a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 victory in 83 minutes. Both teams hit seven aces.

Moodie and Norman, who will feature in DEUCE Magazine next month, made semi-final exits at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year. They have a 16-10 season mark.

Wild cards George Bastl and Dustin Brown won just 46 per cent of service points, but did enough to beat second-seeded Spaniards Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 in 70 minutes for a semi-final berth.

At the ATP Studena Croatia Open, also an ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tennis tournament, Czech-Slovakian pairing Leos Friedl and Filip Polasek defeated top seeds and Wimbledon champions Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner 6-1, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals. In the 53-minute match, Friedl and Polasek broke serve five times from 10 opportunities and won 76 per cent of points behind their first serve.

In the semi-finals, Friedl and Polasek will face Argentine pairing Maximo Gonzalez and Sebastian Prieto, who also caused an upset as they beat third seeds Juan Ignacio Chela and Pablo Cuevas 7-5, 6-4 in 67 minutes.

South African-British tandem Jeff Coetzee and Jamie Murray, who reached the 2008 Nottingham final, earned their place in the semi-finals with a strong 6-2, 6-3 victory over Italians Simone Bolelli and Potito Starace.

In Los Angeles, Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer stopped No. 2 seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Lindstedt and Tecau had reached the final in their past three tournaments coming into Los Angeles, titling in 's-Hertogenbosch and Bastad and finishing as runners-up at Wimbledon.

Fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi also advanced to the semi-finals, prevailing over Arnaud Clement and Jonathan Erlich 3-6, 7-6(4), 14-12.
