Top seeds and defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan saved five of six break points to overcome Ernests Gulbis and Dmitry Tursunov 7-5, 6-3 in 63 minutes on Thursday for a place in the semi-finals of their hometown tournament, the Farmers Classic. Gulbis and Tursunov hit 11 aces and three doubles faults.

The Bryans tied Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde’s Open Era record of 61 team titles after defeating rivals Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open final this past May – their fifth triumph of the 2010 season. They have a 36-8 match record on the season.

The 32-year-old American twins, natives of Camarillo, are attempting to reach their 100th doubles final together this week. They made their Los Angeles debut in 1996, and won their first of five titles at this ATP World Tour 250 hard-court tournament in 2001.

Elsewhere, Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr defeated Feliciano Lopez and Janko Tipsarevic 7-6(2), 7-6(5) in one hour and 42 minutes. It was their 12th win of the season (12-16 record).

There was no doubles play on Thursday at the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad and at the ATP Studena Croatia Open, where there was heavy rain.
