Fish Delighted With Form After Superb Summer
Cincinnati, U.S.A.

Mardy Fish may have lost out to Roger Federer in the Cincinnati final on Sunday, but the American is delighted with his form after an outstanding Olympus US Open Series and will rise to from No. 36 to No. 21 in the updated South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings on Monday.
After shedding 30 lbs in weight in the past 10 months, Fish has enjoyed a career resurgence, finishing runner-up to Sam Querrey at The Queen’s Club in June before winning back-to-back titles in Newport (d. O. Rochus) and Atlanta (d. Isner).
“I feel great. I've done some things that I've never done before,” said Fish. “I'll be able to put this match in perspective very shortly. It's a great tournament. It's as well as I've played. I played well today; he played well today. It was a pretty high level, I thought, for the most part.”
The 28-year-old Fish suffered the disappointment of losing in the Cincinnati final for a second time, having held two match points in a heartbreaking defeat to Andy Roddick in 2003. Fish avenged that loss to Roddick as he came from a set and a break down to defeat his childhood friend in the semi-finals on Saturday and reach his fourth ATP World Tour final of the summer.
“I've played three Masters 1000 finals (also Indian Wells 2008) and lost in three sets in every one. I desperately want to sort of have my career maybe be remembered by a big tournament or something like that. I've finished second in a lot of big tournaments: the Olympics and here a couple times and Indian Wells I've played really well. So I've wanted badly to win a real big one. This would have been perfect, but wasn't meant to be.”
