Defending champions and third seeds Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy crashed out of the first round of the US Open Tuesday, upset by Martin Damm and Filip Polasek 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4. The Czech-Slovak duo had not played together since reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

Damm won the US Open in 2006 with Paes and also reached the final 17 years ago with Karel Novacek.

Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski reached the second round with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Albert Montanes.

Simon Aspelin and Paul Hanley boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals by defeating Michael Russell and Dmitry Tursunov 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
