Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan extended their winning streak to 11 matches as they powered into the US Open quarter-finals following a 7-5, 6-3 win over Mardy Fish and Mark Knowles. The World No. 1 team has reached the quarter-finals four consecutive years and won their second title at Flushing Meadows in 2008.

But the Bryans, who won back-to-back ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles in Toronto and Cincinnati in the lead-in to the Open, face a tough challenge next against Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski. The Poles have won two of their three meetings with the Bryans this year, including a 6-2, 6-2 beat-down in Miami in March.

Fifth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach reached the quarter-finals for the first time after coming from behind to defeat Portuguese-Spanish pairing Frederico Gil and Daniel Gimeno-Traver 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 Monday in New York.

The Polish-Austrian duo, who fell in the first round on their US Open debut last year, are through to their second major quarter-final of the season, having also reached the last eight at Roland Garros in May. Their best result at a Grand Slam came at the 2009 Australian Open, where they reached the semi-finals.

Kubot and Marach next will face Argentine team Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos, who surprised No. 13 seeds and Wimbledon finalists Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-3. On their Grand Slam debut together they have also defeated fourth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi.

Spanish No. 12 seeds Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo dropped the second set but finished strongly to defeat German-Dutch tandem Florian Mayer and Rogier Wassen 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. The Spaniards were also quarter-finalists at Wimbledon this year.
