Top Seeds Reach Kuala Lumpur SFs; Melo-Soares Fall

Top-seeded Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski reached their fourth ATP World Tour semi-final (or better) on Thursday at the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2010. The pair converted their two break point opportunities to defeat Johan Brunstrom and Scott Lipsky 7-6(5), 6-4 in 85 minutes.

Second seeds Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinak, who are also in contention for Barclays ATP World Tour qualification, saved seven of nine break points to beat Stephen Huss and Ross Hutchins 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 in one hour and 36 minutes. The duo has reached two ATP World Tour finals this year at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha (l. to Garcia-Lopez) and the ATP Studena Croatia Open in Umag (l. to Friedl-Polasek).

Third-seeded Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa, who were finalists at the Open de Moselle in Metz (l. to Brown-Wassen) last week, fell to Sergiy Stakhovsky and Mikhail Youzhny 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-5 in one hour and 36 minutes.

At the PTT Thailand Open in Bangkok, wild cards Dmitry Tursunov and Kittipong Wachiramanowong required just 65 minutes to beat Daniel Brands and Ivan Dodig 6-3, 6-3 for a semi-final berth. Marco Chiudinelli and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez edged a closely fought contest against Germans Benjamin Becker and Michael Berrer 7-6(5), 6-4 in 74 minutes.
