Cilic-Ljubicic Advance To Second Round; Finals Contenders Aspelin-Hanley Fall

Croatians Marin Cilic and Ivan Ljubicic, competing as a team for just the sixth time in their careers, hit eight aces past Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin in a 6-3, 6-7(3) 12-10 win over 85 minutes on Monday at the BNP Paribas Masters, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 indoor tournament in Paris.

Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey, this season’s Regions Morgan Keegan Championships champions and Internazionali BNL d'Italia finalists, knocked out Brazilians Thomaz Bellucci and Marcelo Melo 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-0 in 74 minutes for a place in the quarter-finals.

Sergiy Stakhovsky and Mikhail Youzhny also earned a Match tie-break win over Barclays ATP World Tour Finals contenders Simon Aspelin and Paul Hanley 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 in 63 minutes. Aspelin and Hanley were ranked No. 10 in the year-to-date ATP Doubles Team Rankings.
