Tennis fans in Abu Dhabi will get a taste of what’s to come in the 2011 ATP World Tour season when World No. 1 Rafael Nadal faces No. 2 Roger Federer in the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Saturday.

The duo could face each other in the first week of the new season when they both play at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, which begins in Doha on Monday, 3 January.

On Friday at the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, Federer overcame the loss of the first set to defeat World No. 5 Robin Soderling 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-3. "I never got broken," Federer said. "I came back and got through a tough second set and third set I felt I was playing better.

“This is also an opportunity for me to try out new things, go after my shots and see a clearer picture of what I am doing and this is why I enjoy this tournament," added Federer. "I was able to create some great stuff today that can help me in a big tournament and that is what I am building up for.”

In the second match of the day, Nadal defeated World No. 6 Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-4 in a repeat of the Wimbledon final.

“Tomorrow’s match will be very difficult," said Nadal. "Roger is one of the greatest in history if not the best, so it will be a very difficult one and I will try my best to play a really good one. It will be a good test and we will see what will happen. We played a lot of matches against each other so we know each other. I want to win tomorrow and I’m sure so does he.”
