Two-time defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan advanced to the third round of the Australian Open on Friday with a 7-6(6), 6-3 win over Argentine-Spanish duo Carlos Berlocq and Pere Riba.

The top-seeded Americans improved to a 42-7 record at Melbourne Park as they produced a strong serving display, only dropping four points behind their delivery, and broke serve once in the second set. They are chasing their fifth Australian Open crown, having also won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007 before triumphing the past two years.

Playing alongside new partners, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic – the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals doubles champions – claimed wins in consecutive matches on Court 18 at Melbourne Park on Friday.

Nestor teamed up with Max Mirnyi as the No. 2 seeds and cruised past the Mexican-German pairing of Santiago Gonzalez and Philipp Marx 6-3, 6-4. Zimonjic and Michael Llodra, the No. 8 seeds, followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Spaniards Pablo Andujar and Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

Llodra and Zimonjic will next play Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in the third round after ‘The Indo-Pak Express’ defeated Frenchman Jeremy Chardy and Arnaud Clement 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in one hour and 36 minutes.

Fifth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski saved all six break points they faced as they advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yen-Hsun Lu and Rainer Schuettler. The Poles achieved their best result in Melbourne when they reached the semi-finals in 2006. Fourth seeds and 2009 semi-finalists Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach were also comfortable winners, defeating Australians Samuel Groth and Greg Jones 6-1, 6-3.

Austrian-German duo Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner posted an emphatic 6-3, 6-1 victory over Germans Michael Berrer and Florian Mayer to secure their place in the third round. The sixth seeds, who won the Wimbledon title last year, broke serve four times from nine opportunities as they prevailed in 57 minutes.
