For the first time in over 14 years, three South Africans are in the quarter-final line-up of an ATP World Tour event, and where better for that to happen than in that very country itself? The last time three South Africans were in the final eight came in Newport in July 1996.

First on Centre Court is German Simon Greul against the first South African in action, Izak Van der Merwe. Greul, who is ranked No. 130 but was as high as No. 55 last spring, is trying to reach his first ATP World Tour semi-final since doing so on the clay of Bucharest in September 2009. Van der Merwe, ranked No. 170 (he has never been in the Top 150) is trying to reach his first ATP World Tour semi-final - in fact, he is playing in his first quarter-final. This is a first-time meeting.

Second up is another South African, Rik de Voest, taking on Somdev Devvarman of India. De Voest is gunning for his first ATP World Tour semi-final - in fact, just like Van der Merwe, he is in his first quarter-final. Not only has Devvarman been to this stage before (he has even been to a final before, at Chennai in 2009), he has also won both previous meetings with de Voest, both those meetings coming in 2009. De Voest has taken out a seed this week though, No. 8 seed Michal Przysiezny.

Third up is No. 6 seed Adrian Mannarino of France against Frank Dancevic. It was Dancevic who ousted top seed and defending champion Feliciano Lopez in the first round, and now the Canadian will try to oust his second seed of the week in Mannarino. But Mannarino had a straight forward time in his only previous meeting with Dancevic, winning a Challenger duel last year, 64 64. The Frenchman is also playing his best tennis right now, currently sitting at his career-high ranking of No. 67.

Last up on Centre Court is No. 4 seed and South African No. 1 Kevin Anderson against Karol Beck of Slovakia. Anderson, ranked No. 59 and the highest seed remaining this week, is trying to reach his second semi-final of the year, having gone that far in Brisbane four weeks ago. Beck's No. 100 ranking may not be completely indicative of his skills - he has been as high as No. 36. Both Anderson and Beck have been to ATP World Tour finals before but neither has hoisted a trophy.
