SATURDAY PREVIEW – FORMER US Open CHAMPS, FISH-RAONIC SQUARE OFF IN SEMI-FINALS
The semi-finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships on Saturday feature former US Open champions, top seed Andy Roddick and wild card Juan Martin del Potro along with No. 4 seed Mardy Fish and Canadian wild card Milos Raonic. Roddick won the US Open title in 2003 and del Potro in 2009. This is the second time in three years here two former Slam winners are meeting in the semi-finals. Two years ago Roddick beat Hewitt.
In the first semi-final, Fish and Raonic meet for the first time. Fish is appearing in the semi-finals here for the third time (2004, ’07) and he’s playing in Memphis for the 11th straight year. The 29-year-old American has a 15-10 career mark in Memphis. Raonic is making his semi-final debut here and the 20-year-old Canadian has made the biggest jump in the Top 100 South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings from last year, climbing from No. 156 at the end of 2010 to a career-high No. 59 this week. He will break the Top 50 (around No. 45) next week. Raonic, who leads the tournament with 74 aces this week, is off to an 11-2 start this season and he’s trying to reach his second straight ATP World Tour final. Last week in San Jose he captured the title (d. Verdasco) without dropping a set.
In the second semi-final, del Potro, who has not lost his serve this week, takes a 3-0 career mark against Roddick. This will be their first indoor meeting and first match-up since August 2009 when the Argentine prevailed in the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal. Roddick has a 32-7 career record in Memphis and he’s appearing in his sixth semi-final (4-1). He is 2-2 in finals. Roddick is also aiming to reach his 50th career final (29-20) on the ATP World Tour. The 22-year-old del Potro is appearing in his second straight ATP World Tour semi-final after reaching the semis last week in San Jose (l. to Verdasco). Del Potro is 7-3 in finals, winning his last title at the ’09 US Open.

SATURDAY PREVIEW - SODERLING ON A ROLL, GOES FOR THIRD ATP WORLD TOUR FINAL IN 2011
One Top 5 player, two former Top 10 players and a former Top 20 player on the comeback trail make up the final four of the Open 13, and on Saturday those four stars will do battle for two final berths.
The first semi-final pits No. 1 seed Robin Soderling against Dmitry Tursunov. No one has compiled the kind of numbers Soderling has so far this year: he has the most match wins (15 - no one else has more than 12) and is the only multiple ATP World Tour champion (winning at Brisbane and Rotterdam). The Swede has also done very well at this tournament before, never falling before the quarter-finals here (he is 12-4 at this tournament). Tursunov’s ranking of No. 129 is deceptive, given he started the year No. 197 and has been as high as No. 20 before; but he has always had trouble with the very top players, going 1-14 in his career against Top 5 players (his only Top 5 win came at Wimbledon five years ago, a five set win against a No. 4-ranked Ivan Ljubicic).
The second semi-final pits No. 3 seed Mikhail Youzhny against Marin Cilic. Youzhny and Cilic are both former Top 10 players, Youzhny spending 25 career weeks in there (now No. 11) and Cilic spending 11 career weeks in there (now No. 28). Both are in the semi-finals here for the first time, and there’s one thing that swings this match in Youzhny’s favor, his 4-0 head-to-head lead over Cilic, which includes a straight set win for the Russian right here last year. Cilic has won his last two rounds in straight sets though - Youzhny went to three in both.
