No. 6 seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi moved into the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters Thursday with a 7-6(4), 6-3 victory against Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer. The Indo-Pak Express saved all four break points they faced and won 76 per cent of their service points. They’ll play second seeded Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor in the quarter-finals Friday.

Bopanna and Qureshi are making their first appearance in Monte Carlo and have now reached the quarter-final stage or better at three consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events, previously advancing to the semi-finals at Indian Wells and quarter-finals in Miami. They defeated Butorac and Rojer in the first round of Indian Wells in March.

Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, seeded fifth, needed 55 minutes to sweep past Frenchmen Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-2. The win advances the Poles into the quarter-finals of Monte Carlo for the third time; they have yet to progress further, but can reach their first semi-final should they get past No. 4 seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach.

Juan Ignacio Chela and Bruno Soares beat Sergiy Stakhovsky and Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 6-3 to book a place in the semi-finals. The Argentine-Brazilian duo pressured their opposition’s serve, winning 47 per cent of their return points, converting five breaks of serve in the process. The win puts Chela and Soares into the semi-finals of a Masters 1000 event for the first time in their careers.

World No. 1 Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan received a walkover from their quarter-final opponents, Tommy Robredo and Marcel Granollers. Robredo retired from his singles match against Viktor Troicki with a left adductor injury earlier in the day. The American twins will play the winner of Kubot-Marach and Fyrstenberg-Matkowski.
