Butorac-Rojer Make Winning Start

ATP World Tour 2011 Season: Week 16

Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer advanced to the second round of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Tuesday as they ousted Spaniards Marcel Granollers and Feliciano Lopez 7-6(6), 6-4 at the ATP World Tour 500 clay-court tennis tournament.

The unseeded duo, who reached the Australian Open semi-finals (l. to Bryans) and Memphis final (l. to Mirnyi-Nestor) earlier in the season, marked their team debut in Barcelona by saving 12 of the 13 break points they faced to prevail in 84 minutes.

Three first-time pairings also made successful starts on Tuesday. Frantisek Cermak and Andy Ram set up a second-round clash with top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan after coming from a set down to defeat Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 in 67 minutes.

South Africa’s Kevin Anderson and Sweden’s Simon Aspelin broke serve twice from 12 opportunities to defeat Daniele Bracciali and David Marrero 7-6(4), 7-5 in one hour and 32 minutes. Meanwhile Uruguayan-Czech tandem Pablo Cuevas and Lukas Dlouhy will face second seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor in the second round after dismissing Thomaz Bellucci and Ivan Dodig 6-4, 6-2.
