Llodra-Zimonjic Deny Nestor 800th Doubles Win

No. 6 seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic denied Daniel Nestor his 800th doubles win at the Mutua Madrid Open Friday, defeating the second seeded Canadian and his partner Max Mirnyi 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 to move on to the semi-finals. The Frenchman and Serb advance to their third semi-final of the season and will look to reach their first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final together.

Up next for Llodra and Zimonjic are Marin Cilic and Ivan Ljubicic. In a battle of two lofty pairings, the Croatians were the victors, edging No. 8 seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman 7-5, 7-6(5). Cilic and Ljubicic were successful on 81 per cent of their first service points, while their opponents weren’t as lucrative, winning 69 per cent of those points.

World No. 1 Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan beat sixth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-3, 6-4 to book their semi-final slot. The Bryans won 80 per cent of their service points and saved all four break points they faced. It’s the twins’ fifth win in six meetings on clay against the Poles.

In the semi-finals, the top seeds will be part of an all-American semi-final showdown, where they’ll square off against John Isner and Sam Querrey. ‘Quisner’ took out No. 4 seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi 6-7(6), 6-4, 10-3 to move forward. Last year, Isner and Querrey reached their first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final in Rome, finishing runner-up to the Bryans.
