Mike Bryan recorded the 700th doubles win of his career on Friday at Roland Garros as he and twin brother Bob Bryan defeated Chris Guccione and Jamie Murray 7-6(5), 7-5 to reach the third round in Paris.

Currently in sixth place, Mike Bryan is just nine wins short of fifth-placed Jonas Bjorkman in the career doubles match wins leaders list. Bob Bryan is in seventh place with 687 victories. Daniel Nestor, who recorded his 800th victory on Thursday, is the all-time leader.

The Bryans were made to work hard for their victory. Australian-British duo Guccione and Murray held three set points in the first set and also squandered an opportunity to serve for the second set before succumbing to the World No. 1 pairing in one hour and 40 minutes.

The top-seeded Bryans, who won their 10th Grand Slam championship at the Australian Open (d. Bhupathi-Paes) in January, lost to Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in the Roland Garros second round last year. They have avoided what could have been a repeat meeting with the Brazilians in the quarter-finals after the 11th seeds were beaten by Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Fourth seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic advanced to the third round as they defeated Spaniards Pablo Andujar and Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-4 in 59 minutes. The 31-year-old Llodra is a former finalist at Roland Garros, with Fabrice Santoro in 2004, while the 34-year-old Zimonjic is the defending champion after triumphing with Daniel Nestor last year.

The French-Serbian duo joined forces full time in 2011 and opened with a quarter-final showing at the Australian Open before later reaching the finals in Rotterdam (l. to Melzer-Petzschner) and Madrid (l. to Bryans).

‘The Indo-Pak Express’ of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi were forced to fight back from a set down to secure their third-round spot, defeating Maximo Gonzalez and Kei Nishikori 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 17 minutes. The 2010 US Open runners-up, who are seeded fifth this week, are through to the third round in Paris for the first time.

Ninth seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau also came from behind to win, overcoming French duo Kenny De Schepper and Albano Olivetti 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 14 minutes.
