Second seed and former champion Andy Murray delighted British supporters at The Queen's Club on Wednesday with a rain-interrupted 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse of Belgium at the AEGON Championships.

Murray led 3-1 when rain stopped play at 3:58 p.m. One hour later the pair returned to Centre Court. The Scot won 71 per cent of service points and hit 12 aces in his first grass-court match since a Wimbledon semi-final exit to Rafael Nadal in July 2010.

"The court is playing very, very slow for a grass court, [so there were] quite a lot of rallies," said Murray. "I had a little chance at the end of the second set, didn't take it, and obviously he got back into it and started playing better but I managed to turn it around in the end."

In 2009, Murray became the first Briton to lift the AEGON Championships title since Henry "Bunny" Austin in 1938. The World No. 4 will next face Serbian Janko Tipsarevic, the No. 14 seed, who beat Michael Russell 7-6(3), 7-6(5).

"He's a very good player," said Murray of Tipsarevic. "I lost to him here a few years ago. He's a good grass-court player, [a] tricky opponent. I have to play better than today if I want to win that one."

Eighth seed Marin Cilic beat French qualifier Arnaud Clement for the third time in five meetings Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-4 win in 90 minutes. Cilic, making his fifth straight appearance at Queen's Club, reached the 2007 quarter-finals on his debut.

Kevin Anderson, the No. 15 seed, saved both break points he faced to record his fourth straight win over Donald Young 6-2, 6-4 in 73 minutes.

Play was suspended for approximately 70 minutes due to rain at 1:54 p.m. Matches were stopped for a second time at 3:58 p.m and they got back underway shortly after 5pm.
