No. 11 seed Jurgen Melzer edged 2011 UNICEF Open champion Dmitry Tursunov 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(1) to reach the third round of Wimbledon for the fourth year in a row on Friday.

Both Melzer and Tursunov broke serve five times in the match, but it was the Austrian who upped his level of play in two crucial tie-breaks to claim victory.

Melzer improves to a 2-3 record against the Russian, with his other win coming in the first round of the 2010 US Open. On Saturday, he’ll play Xavier Malisse, a former semi-finalist at The Championships, for a fourth round berth. "It's going to be a tough match, completely different than the one I had today, I think," believes Melzer. "Xavier plays the ball... He knows how to play on grass."

Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic overcame a two sets to love deficit for the first time in his career, rallying to defeat Igor Andreev 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 in a second-round encounter. He's the youngest player to reach the third round since Novak Djokovic progressed to the round of 32 as a 17 year old in 2005.

The World No. 158 took advantage of his break point opportunities, converting six of eight chances to upend Andreev. With the win, Tomic will become the highest ranked Australian when Wimbledon concludes; he is projected to rise to No. 130. He can improve upon that should he defeat fifth-seeded Robin Soderling in a third-round clash on Saturday.
