Top seeds and 2006 champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan kept their nerve in a tense fifth set to beat Simon Aspelin and Paul Hanley on Wednesday for a place in the quarter-finals at The Championships.

Resuming their match at 3-3 in the deciding set, after rain suspended the match on Tuesday night, the American twins broke in the 29th game to complete a 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-3, 16-14 win on Court 2.

The World No. 1s will next face fifth seeds and defending champions Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner, after the pair defeated No. 11 seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman 7-6(5), 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Melzer and Petzschner won a second-round match carried over from Tuesday against Americans Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram, 6-4, 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3.

Sixth seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic completed their rain-interrupted third-round match over Carsten Ball and Santiago Gonzalez by taking the third set 7-6(4). They had won the first two sets 6-4, 7-6(9) on Tuesday and now go onto challenge James Cerretani and Philipp Marx in the last eight.

In quarter-final action, No. 8 seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau preaviled against Arnaud Clement and Lukas Dlouhy 3-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 12-10. They will attempt to reach the Wimbledon final for a second straight year when they next meet Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya, who were 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(2), 2-6, 6-4 winners over Britons Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins.
