Marach-Peya Reach Hamburg SFs, Beating Monfils-Simon

ATP World Tour 2011 Season: Week 29

Third-seeded Austrians Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya defeated Frenchmen Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-5 on Wednesday for a semi-final berth at the bet-at-home Open - German Tennis Championships 2011.

In first-round action, fourth seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek, the Serbia Open 2011 titlists (d. Marach-Peya) in May, saved all 13 break points they faced to defeat Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin 6-3, 6-4 in 77 minutes.

They will next face Croatians Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig, who, in contesting their third tournament of the year, also had a Match tie-break victory over Juan Ignacio Chela and Santiago Giraldo 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. Cilic and Dodig were semi-finalists at the Aircel Chennai Open (l. to Bhupathi-Paes) at the start of the year.

Daniele Bracciali and Dick Norman, last week's Stuttgart quarter-finalists (l. to Andujar-Gimeno-Traver), scraped past Carlos Berlocq and Fabio Fognini 6-3, 5-7, 10-8. Both teams won 63 per cent of their service points in the one hour and 36-minute encounter.

German wild card Andreas Beck and Christopher Kas, titlists at Munich (l. to Bolelli-Zeballos) in May, cruised past Spaniards Marc Lopez and David Marrero 6-3, 6-4 in 66 minutes.

The wild card duo of Drake Bernstein and Kevin King upset fellow Americans Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram, the No. 1 seeds and defending champions, 7-6(3), 6-3 in a late night match at the Atlanta Tennis Championships. Bernstein and King were both making their tour-level debuts.

Lipsky and Ram had teamed up for the first time last year at the inaugural edition of this ATP World Tour 250 tournament, and won back-to-back hard-court earlier this season in San Jose and Delray Beach.

British fourth seeds Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins made their way safely through to the Atlanta quarter-finals with a 7-5, 6-7(5), 10-6 win over Grigor Dimitrov and Ryan Sweeting. Fleming and Hutchins were making their first appearance since a quarter-final run at Wimbledon.
