Knowles/Malisse Advance To Los Angeles Semis

ATP World Tour 2011 Season: Week 30

Third seeds Mark Knowles and Xavier Malisse reached the Farmers Classic semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Thomaz Bellucci and Alejandro Falla on Thursday night at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles. Knowles and Malisse, who are teaming up for the first time this week, saved all seven break points faced on serve.

Yen-Hsun Lu and Frank Moser also advanced in quarter-final action Thursday, defeating Germans Michael Berrer and Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 10 minutes.

Second seeds Daniele Bracciali and Santiago Gonzalez advanced to the semi-finals of the ATP Studena Croatia Open in Umag as they defeated Brazilians Franco Ferreiro and Andre Sa 6-2, 6-4.

The Italian-Mexican duo, playing together for the first time this week, saved both break points they faced and broke their opponents three times to claim victory in 61 minutes.

Fourth seeds Dustin Brown and Michael Kohlmann did not fare so well. Slovakian-Czech tandem Blaz Kavcic and Jaroslav Pospisil defeated the Germans 6-1, 6-2 in 49 minutes, having dropped just eight points on serve.

At the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad, fourth seeds Johan Brunstrom and Adil Shamasdin opened their campaign with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Swiss wild cards George Bastl and Alexander Sadecky. The Swedish-Canadian team reached the Newport final (l. to Ebden-Harrison) earlier this month and are playing their third tournament together.

Romania’s Victor Hanescu and Rogier Wassen of The Netherlands reached the semi-finals in Gstaad as they saved six of seven break points to edge Spaniards Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Marc Lopez 7-5, 7-5 in 79 minutes.
